[Bug / Issue] Mission "Bounty - Raider Base" cannot be triggered or completed (GPS inside mountain)

Need More Information

Hi everyone,

I encountered an issue with the mission "Bounty - Raider Base" in Survival mode and I am unsure if this is a bug or if I'm missing something.

  • Issue: The mission marker GPSActiveContract spawned deep inside a mountain.
  • Steps taken:Accepted the "Bounty - Raider Base" contract and flew to the target location.Upon arrival, I noticed the GPS marker was embedded inside the mountain terrain.I landed, dug my way into the mountain to reach the marker, but the mission did not trigger/activate.I then went around the mountain to the actual enemy base and destroyed everything as instructed in the description, but the mission remains incomplete/unfulfilled.

Troubleshooting already done:

  • Started a completely fresh save game after Update 2.3.
  • Verified integrity of game files via Steam.

If this is indeed a bug, I wanted to report it here. If this is intended or if there is a specific trick to triggering this mission properly, I'd appreciate any guidance!

Thanks in advance!

Hello Heiko Hartmann (TutMeistensNix),

I can complete the Bounty - Raider Base Contract without an issue by destroying the Gatling Turret, 3 parked ships and the Hydrogen Tanks located inside the base. Could you please provide a video of your issue?

Please note that the Contract in question does not have another stage after reaching the GPS Marker - it is active immediately after accepting it from the Contract Terminal.

Hi Bartosz,

Thank you for the quick reply!

That is very interesting. I just launched the game again to record a video for you. To make the video easier to follow, I switched the game language from German to English.

Surprisingly, as soon as I played in English, the mission completed immediately without any issues when destroying the base!

Before this, while playing in German, I tried the mission 4 times:

  • Canceling and restarting the contract.
  • Reloading the save game multiple times.
  • None of these attempts worked on the German language setting.

It seems this issue might be tied to the language/localization settings (German language causing a trigger/objective detection failure).

Since it worked right away in English, I unfortunately couldn't capture the bug on video, but I hope this detail helps tracking down the issue if it is indeed language-related!

Kind regards,

Heiko (TutMeistensNix)

Hi This Bug/issue may need further investigation as I'm playing in English and have come across exactly the same issue as described above. I Arrived to find the Contract marker under the hill, found the base ground down the turret, hydrogen tanks and all 3 fighters but the contract isn't completing/ updating.

Hello Heiko Hartmann (TutMeistensNix),

I have tried to reproduce this issue on today's Hotfix - 2.3.0.2788. The Contract can be completed correctly in German.

Could you please try to reproduce this issue again on the 2.3.0.2788 version? Additionally, please try to record the attempt and attach it here.

Let me know if you can complete the Contract.

Hi Bartosz

I Have managed to complete the contract on my second attempt. This time I ground down the turret, but instead of grinding down hydrogen tanks and fighters I used the gatling guns on my ship to blow them up and this worked fine so may be related to grinding the items to destroy them.

Hi Bartosz,

Thank you for the update.

I tested this again on the new Hotfix version (2.3.0.2788) and recorded the entire attempt. The video is almost 20 minutes long and completely uncut, so you can see every step without any reloads or edits in between. (Feel free to fast-forward through the long flight times!)

Here is what I did during the video test:

  1. First attempt (German language): Loaded my save game, flew straight to the target, and destroyed everything. The contract did not complete.
  2. Second attempt (German language): Flew back to base, canceled the contract, re-accepted it, flew back, and destroyed everything again. Still no success.
  3. Third attempt (Switched to English): Flew back to base, canceled the contract, switched the game language to English, accepted the contract again, flew back, and destroyed the base in the exact same way. This time, it was immediately successful!

Since another player (Paul Floyd) reported the same bug while playing in English, it might not be a pure localization text issue, but perhaps resetting the language/contract context forces a trigger fix.

I have attached/linked the video here for you to review:

Hope this helps you track down the underlying cause!

Hello Heiko Hartmann (TutMeistensNix),

Thank you for the video. I see other problem in there and I think I know what might be case. Have tried verifying Game files on Steam?

If not, please verify the Game files on Steam and try to complete the Contract again in German. I believe there might be some files either missing or corrupted in your installation (especially since there are no particle effects of the explosions in your video)

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Bartosz,

Thank you for analyzing the video so closely!

Regarding your question: I actually did verify the game files via Steam right when I first encountered the issue, and again yesterday after the hotfix update (because my world wouldn't load at all, which the verification fixed). Interestingly, I did have explosion particle effects before yesterday's hotfix.

To follow your advice, I just verified the game files once again and tested the contract in German.

  • The good news: The explosion particles and animations are back.
  • The bad news: The mission still cannot be completed when playing in German.

Your theory about corrupted files makes sense for the missing effects, but logically, if a broken file were preventing the mission trigger from working, it shouldn't magically fix itself the exact moment I switch the language to English within the same installation.

Fortunately, since the language-switch workaround worked for me during the test, I was able to progress much further in the story now! ;)

I hope the team can still figure out why the language toggle seems to bypass this trigger blockage, especially since Paul experienced something similar in English.

Kind regards,

Heiko (TutMeistensNix)

Hi Bartosz

Not sure if you fixed this Issue yet or not but it seems to me there may be some bigger issue with this mission type as I've now progressed through my game to Dustspire Flats (Kemik). The first contract I accepted there was the bounty to destroy a renegade base (Bounty - Power Plant). The contract objective is to destroy the turrets of which there are 3 and destroy the base reactor. I have tried grinding down, using rocket launcher (player), rifle and the gatling guns on my ship to destroy the objectives but it will not complete.

Not sure if this a related bug or a separate issue.

I tried this but it didn't work. Left a bunch of batteries though. lol. Was oddly a bit satisying as well. ;-p

Hello Engineers,

Bounty Contracts should allow completion with either destroying or grinding down marked blocks / grids.

There is another thing we can try, but since this will require Debug Menu, please conduct this test on a copy of your save:

  • Get to the location of the Contract
  • Open Debug Menu (Ctrl+F12)
  • In the left screen, select Gameplay from the dropdown list
  • Search for and select Survival
  • In the right screen find "Creative Global"
  • Turn it ON
  • Close the Debug Menu with "Esc"
  • Open G-Screen
  • Search for and add to the Toolbar: Warhead and Battery
  • Preferably, grind down or destroy the hostile turrets
  • Place Large Warhead and a small Battery in several places on the Contract Grid
  • Arm the Warheads and start countdown

Once the Warheads detonate, observe if the whole Grids are destroyed and if the Contract is completed.

Let me know the results.

The same thing happened to me - I blew up the entire base. But the mission is still not completed!

i just did the above. the contract was only complete when every block was destroyed.

I have the same problem.

photo

same issue i even completely desroyed base with warheads and the mission didnt update for me so i loaded an earlier save

photo

ok the workaround for me involved exiting game, verify files in steam, launch game, reload save, abandon quest, re-accept quest, went back to mission site used my gatling guns to blow the shit out of the turret making it inoperable then I shot hydrogen tanks they exploded (boom) then shot the shit out of the ships making sure the cockpit and batteries were destroyed. mission wasn't complete at this point, so I exited and ground down the turret remains to 0 and it finally worked. no idea what step worked exactly but I'm thinking it was the abandoning and re-accepting the quest. hopfully this helps the devs find the bug but if not hopfully it helps you guys complete the quest.

I'm having this issue as well. I've attempted it at lease 6 times now using various methods. I've abandoned and retook it. I've loaded up saved games just prior to accepting the contract. I've destroyed the 3 ships, hydrogen tanks and turret using multiple methods to no avail. I've drilled down into the mountain/meteorite to the gold contract location marker multiple times, there's nothing there but a marker and planet. Is the marker SUPPOSED to be there??? I went into Steam and verified the game files twice. This is very frustrating.

I have this issue as well. I have destroyed all the blocks of the three fighters, turret and hydrogen tanks and the mission does not complete.

have the same issue. destroy everything twice and didnt work.

Same issue as all above comments. Started fresh vs2.3 a few days ago. Tried to complete this Mission 4 times. Restarted game, verified steam files integrity, abandoned quest, tried again and again. Attacked targets with rocket launcher, gatling guns, grinder. Dismantled/grinded down the whole base completely, every single element including platforms etc. Nothing works. I tried Bartosz's solution with nukes but I cannot place any warhead or other items within the base, says the area is protected/don't have permission, something along these lines. There is something off with this mission registering progress. Please fix as I cannot progress further with the next region, as the Blueprint it unlocks is needed in the next sector for a few missions.

I ended up building platforms just above/below the targets starting from the mountainside and placed my warheads on those. 9ed0ce786a8290db9b76eb709330ab3d

Thanks for this idea. But did it work for you? Did the mission complete?

Unfortunately no... But it was kinda therapeutic. ;-p

I just had to use the debug menu to complete the contract after having the same problems you all did.

Enable debug menu with Ctrl+F12, select Contracts from the right hand Gameplay tick boxes, then scroll down on the left side to Active Contracts then hit the Finish active contract button.

photo

Thanks for that David. Unfortunately I used the debug menu briefly for a pretty simple task and my game started crashing periodically and I had never had any crashes previously or after playing from a previous save file. Not to mention the annoying banner that pops up every time you load a save file after you do it. I do hope they add a toggle to disable the banner in the future and feel sure they will but I know thats very low priority.

I've seen multiple times/places where turrets (multiple) have been stated but I've only seen 1 turret. Could that be the problem is there supposed to be another turret thats not spawning or is spawning incorrectly?

I did this mission earlier today.

The first time I went out to it, it did not complete the first time I went at it, with the grinder and took out the cockpit, batteries and engines of the craft. And the turret. I figured this probably malfunctioned because I pulled the batteries out of the base first which might be connected to how the game detects if it's destroyed or not.

The second time, I just took the grinder, took out the turret, and then sheared the entire platform off expecting the fighters to just slide off and crash into the ground. Didn't happen, it behaved as though they were parked to it. So I again went and just used the grinder straight through the cockpit and batteries and it cleared.

My guess is that the game is expecting you to do something specific to clear it, and it might depend on an invisible object detecting that specific objects are in the grid, and at least in my experience going into the cockpit and just turning the battery off might have not been enough, and destroying it afterwords didn't clear it, it had to be destroyed while powered.

photo

TLDR: Mission Complete. My advice is: Do not TOUCH the Large Battery right next to the turret, before destroying all other targets. Do not disable it, cut power, do not take power cells from it, avoid even looking at it ;)

Long Version:

So last night I managed to complete this mission. As a last-ditch effort I wanted to try what David have suggested, just to get on with it, despite consequences of using debug mode. It turned out I didn't have to use his method, the mission completed as expected. I don't think I did anything different this time, compared to the first time I tried it a few days ago. Because I tried it 4-5 times before without success, I was not thrilled about it and decided to get to the point as quickly as possible.

Parked my ship at a safe distance and out of the harm's way, I took the grinder and did this. Sneaked up from below the platform, though the grates (grinded them down). Sneaked up to the closest container with the lockers inside and some beds etc (look like living quarters), accessed the locker's inventory and disabled (power off) the turret via the "control panel" tab. There is only one turret on the grid (to answer Engineer #9 question). Then I took the grinder to the turret itself and completely dismantled it. I did not touch the large battery next to it, not even a scratch so that the power it supplies to the rest of the base is not interrupted even for a second. Afterwards I believe I went and grinded down all 4 large hydrogen tanks in the back. Then I proceeded with the 3 small fighter ships parked on the platform in front. Each fighter I grinded in the same fashion. Starting from the back and worked my way in towards the front, in a straight line, grinding the 2 medium-sized thrusters (propeller and upward thruster) then whatever is next, I think it's a cargo container(?), proceeded forward and kept grinding including the battery below the cockpit and the cockpit itself last. I stopped there and went after the next ship. When I grinded down the last ship's battery I think that's when the mission has completed. I am not sure but I believe I did not have a chance to get to the last cockpit at that point, but don't quote me on that, I just don't remember at this point, as I was super surprised and happy that it worked, I saved the game and went for a smoke ;)

To touch on what Kisai said, I believe he might have a point with the triggers and power at the base. The Main Battery at the base, the one right next to the Gatling Turret. After I read his response this morning, and thinking about it, all my previous failed attempts (even the first "silent" one with the grinder), I believe the Main Battery was always destroyed or grinded first, because it's right next to the only threat to the player, the turret, so it's a priority target. As I say "first", I mean in the process of shredding the turret with bullets or blowing it up with rockets, this "main" battery is VERY likely to get disabled, damaged or even destroyed. This action, as Kisai pointed out, might break the logic by witch the mission detects mission success or lack of it - failure. And as I recall in all my previous failed attempts that is exactly what happened, meaning the battery was not operational or destroyed before I got the chance to work on the tanks or the fighter ships. Last night after the mission completed I was not thinking much about it, about what was different, I figured there might be some kind of a hidden timer in play, that counts down the time it takes to "tick all the invisible checkboxes off", and the fact that this time I did this rather fast compared to my previous attempts, it might have been that. But Kisai's message made me think his explanation is more "elegant" compared to my theory.

Technical info: The mission was completed on a save that was not "clean", meaning this was NOT my first attempt at it on this save. As I said, I tried it multiple times, and after each time I gave up, I went and Abandoned it at the mission terminal taking other available missions. Yesterday as I was sneaking up to the base, I still saw some Steel Plates at the bottom of the mountain, ones that I did not picked up hours ago, from my previous attempts when I was grinding the whole thing to the ground. This mission was second to last to complete. The other not completed mission at the time was the "Advanced Building - Blueprints". I have already travelled to the next station and after realising few missions needed Gatling Turret to be built, I travelled back and started trying this mission again. Other than that, I did NOT activate debug mode on this save, ever. And I do not use any mods on this save.

Hope this helps someone in the meantime before hopefully it gets resolved in the following patches.

This is a bug that got pointed out in this report already: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers2/pc/topic/55257-disable-the-renegade-base-cant-complete-contract

TLDR: it's bugged but you can complete it if you abandon and accept the mission multiple times. worked for me on the 2nd try, for the OP it worked on the 5th try.

to save time on the possible multiple tries you have to do, what i did was: grind gatling turret, grind the cockpit, storage (was in the way) and battery of each fighter, grind the 4 hydrogen tanks.

with the fighters, my guess would be if the cockpit is gone, it counts. can't say if the battery needs to be destroyed because of the order i did it in - maybe somebody can confirm - but you definitely don't have do grind every single part and piece of armour like i did after it didn't complete the first time.

best of luck engineers

Ultimately all the bugs/issues with this mission and the previous raider base mission seem to about the strategy taken.

If using a hand gun on everything works, then that also means the handgun is too powerful since that means the enemies would be able to chew threw any player ship in seconds the same way.

The thing to note about the video above is that they did not attack the battery of the base so that means this is probably the strategy the developers thought players would take. Someone who prefers stealth would likely pull the battery or turn the battery off to shut down the turret, and then so the same with the shuttles. But that doesn't clear the mission.

To me a fun way to destroy those ships would be to be able to take over the turret and use it to blow up the shuttles if I didn't have a weapon.

"Fun" ways to destroy the base should still clear it, so my guess is that the game doesn't consider them destroyed in some situations because pulling the batteries "turns the grid off" when the grid would likely have unlimited power while the mission is operational. But destroying the battery first, and then the turret doesn't see the "grid" as destroyed.

photo
1

That handgun seems like a creative tool rather than an actual ingame thing... no idea but at least i still can't craft it, many many hours after this mission.

About the mission completion itself: i encountered a very similar bug on Kemik many hours later doing a mission (can't recall the exact name) something "renegade mining operation". very similar setup, you have to destroy a smelter, 2 hydrogen tanks and a mining ship that is parked on a platform. on my first run i destroyed the battery first to switch off the gatling turret and then went about to grind down the objectives... did not complete whatsoever.

then i remembered that Marc Bartman (few posts above) pointed out this theory about not touching the battery and that it could interfere with the blocks not being registered as taken out. So i did exactly that, sneaked around the whole mountain, grinded every block needed to complete the mission - while the turret was still actively shooting at me (just run sideways btw, it will miss you constantly) and the mission completed!

so i think my theory about these bugs is now just like Marc pointed out. Keep the energy grid intact while destroying your objectives, otherwise it won't register the destruction properly.

in general, there really seems to be a pattern on these "destruction" missions related to a base. I never had any problems to complete these "destroy a ship in space" missions you get a bit later. very straight forward... you blast them until the reactor/energy is gone and done. (oh yeah, btw, one of the missions stated this even as a requirement - so i guess on the fighters, all that matters is destroying the battery probably)

about the "fun ways" to destroy it... i don't believe any of this is intended and there logically should be many ways to complete it... my first attempt actually stealing one of the fighters and using it's gatling gun to shoot the rest ;)

i hope they can find the cause of this bug soon so all of this is possible

photo
photo

Ok, on about the 15th attempt.... *SIGH* it FINALLY completed. I did a run through trying another method someone had suggested without success. Abandoned contract (AGAIN) then returned. Got on site and realized I had absolutely 0 ammo/rockets so I started grinding. Snuck up on turret and grinded it down. Took out the Fighter cockpits and batteries. Grinded down the 4 hydrogen tanks. No success. Was just heading back to my ship and saw those huge thrusters on the rear of the fighters and just for kicks, took out he rear and the lift thrusters of each ship. *COMPLETE* No rhyme. No reason....

photo
1

Ok, so i was having the same issue and i fixed this way. 1st i must say that i left the mission undone and qhen i came back to do it it work at first try, BUT, for some bugs my ship crash and i didnt save it. SO, I went to do another mission instead and then i came back and it work right again. MAYBE it just need to be refreshed by completing other missions

photo

The GPS is in the rock indeed, but the base is on the other side, attached to the side of it. Th GPS point is just misplaced.
