Player intermittently stuck when exiting cockpit

Issue : I exited the cockpit and found I could not move the character. I am not sure if this is related, but in first-person mode when I looked down at my feet the character model was all stretched and flat.
Fix/work around : I found that engaging the jetpack fixed the issue, and I regained control after that.
I am not certain what conditions caused this movement freeze - possibly some terrain collision? Maybe entering the cockpit when using the jetpack? It has happened twice now in about 8 hours of gameplay.

Sometimes I would exit the seat and the character would be warped and stretched as you describe.
