VS2.2: frequent crashes during combat (creative mode)

Happens almost on every battle encounter. Seems to be related to some component explosion event. After about a minute of shooting at the enemy ship, game just crashes. This has about in about 90% of encounters for me. I have not tried fighting in survival mode yet.
