one of the last quests requires you to "collect" or build weapons and provide them in a cargo container. The tooltip tells you that you can build them. In order to do so you can build up gearfoge, smelter and assembler at that time in the progress. You need magnesium to build them, but magnesium is not supposed to be in that sector, so you have to capture enemy ships or cheat the magnesium in. This should be corrected, there shold be a possibility to build the weapons including magnesium, in order to do so magnesium should be in that sector
Magnesium found in Verdure sector

Magnesium is not listed on the sector map for Verdure, but it is on the asteroid for the final contract for Sabotage Renegade Suppression. I'm not complaining, just letting you know - lol
This will be one of the first asteroids I visit on the next run through of the scenario :)

Magnesium Ore can now be found in The Viridian Halo in Verdure sector. This is intended change. Magnesium Ore being not visible in the Raw Materials list in the Colonization Map is a known issue which we are currently investigating.
I will update this thread once I have more info on this issue.

Magnesium Ore is not visible on the Colonization Map most probably due to the fact that the Viridian Halo is not yet being rendered in the map and thus resources spawning in the Ring are not detected.
I have reported this issue and attached this thread to our internal ticket (SE2-31950).
