Game stop responding ( but menu sounds still audible) just after pressing escape to access main menu

While in game, during the early phases of the survival scenary, I pushed esc to enter main menu ( it is really slow mosto of the time, it take seconds to show up) and save manually the game. The menu didn't show up, but I could ear the menu selection sounds. Pressing anything just did nothing. I had to kill the process and restart. It happend only once for now.
