Raytracing dont work

Need More Information

If I want to activate Raytracing it is grayed out. My PC has a nvidia 2080ti, so it should work, but it does not.

I would suggest that my graphic cart is not detected correct by the game and therefore dont let me activate the option.

Hello Tim Kinastowski,

Does this issue still occurs for you? Could you please provide Game and Render logs?

Hello Tim Kinastowski,

In order to find the logs, you need to:

  1. Type %appdata% in Windows search bar / Start bar
  2. Go to this folder
    C:\Users\(your_username)\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers2\Temp\Logs
  3. Find the latest created Logs, they will look like this:

Hello Tim Kinastowski,

From the logs I can see that your GPU drivers are outdated and thus the RTX cores in your GPU will not be detected. Additionally, the drivers you have installed seem to be Proton specific which on Windows OS may also cause compatibility issues.

Please install latest Drivers from here: Official GeForce Drivers | NVIDIA, either through manual search or installing the NVIDIA App.

Let me know if this helps

Ok, I now downloaded and installed the newest driver available. I started the game again, but it still is not working. I have attached the new logs.

Hello Tim Kinastowski,

Have you tried clean install of the GPU drivers? There should be an option for this in the drivers installer. Additionally, I see that you also have installed AMD drivers which may cause some compatibility issues. Please try uninstalling the AMD drivers and clean install of the NVIDIA drivers.

Let me know if this helps.

I have selected the best driver and reinstalling, but still the same. I put an screenshot as an attachment. It says "the device is using the reccomended driver".

I'm not sure about AMD. I've always just used the standard drivers. Maybe they're there because of my AMD processor?

Hello Tim Kinastowski,

According to the logs, this is your installed Driver: 02f89d53a93f29164d60200086877686

While the newest one is this:

83b999f1fcab9e031f92e643632f140e

Please, try to manually install the newest driver from here (Official NVIDIA site): GeForce Game Ready-Treiber | 581.29 | Windows 11 | NVIDIA with clean install, so that the old drivers is deleted before installing the new one.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi, I tried it, but it did not work. I dont know what is wrong. I tried asking the AI and it suggested to simply wait, as Space Engineers 2 is still in alpha, it is a common known bug, and it will be fixed in the future.

So if you dont have any other Ideas I would simply wait, since ray tracing is not game-changing, just a verry nice gimmick to have.

But thanks for your support. Have a nice day.

--- here is the AI response, if you need it (translated in english) ---

There are reports that ray tracing is disabled by default or not recognized in Space Engineers 2, even if the hardware supports it.

Some players report that the ray tracing option remains grayed out even though their graphics card is RTX-capable. This seems to be a common issue, suggesting that the game itself does not recognize the hardware cores correctly.

The issue of ray tracing options being grayed out in games such as Space Engineers 2 is a common phenomenon. This is because the game expects specific DirectX Raytracing (DXR) APIs. Sometimes the game does not recognize the hardware correctly, even if the drivers are correct.

There are no official instructions from Keen Software House (the developers of Space Engineers 2) on how to fix this specific issue.

Since Space Engineers 2 is still in early alpha, it is possible that full ray tracing compatibility has not yet been implemented. The development team is constantly working on improvements, and future updates to the game may fix this issue.

Btw, if it helps: in other Games like Cyberpunk 2077, raytracing worked.

And my graphicscard should support it. So my initial thougt was, that my card is maybe not detected correct by the game? Maybe so, that the recognizer says, "The graphics card is not working" even though it is working.

Maybe it would be possible to circumvent the recognizer so that even if the recognizer says "it doesn't work", you could still turn on ray tracing?
