mined ore spawns in voxels

Ok, this is a weird one. I set myself up a scenario where I start on a mini version of Earth's moon about 100,000 km from Earth, with minimal supplies and equipment, with the objective being to make it back to Earth. When I tried to mine, no ore or stone would spawn. I was wasting all my energy drilling for nothing. Well, I enabled spectator cam and watched myself mine from inside the planet voxels. I could see ore and stone generating inside the voxels, then despawning almost immediately. I'm not sure if this is a glitch caused by the 19km version of the Moon, or the game acting funny because I'm so far from the standard planets. Either way, it's made my scenario unplayable.
