Variable Block - new feature suggestion

A new block a bit like the timer block but allows you to set variables on any functional block to a specific value for one or more blocks (perhaps with some reasonable count limit). This block would be have "trigger now" like the timer block.
Example:
Piston: set maximum distance to 4
Thrusters: set thrust override to 40%
etc
It would need an interface that would allow the selection of any functional block that is configurable, then allow the selection of the blocks variables and present the appropriate value field.
I believe this would improve the situation on servers that do not allow scripts, and make for some interesting engineering!
