Suggestion: Control Surfaces
Suggestion/Idea: Control Surfaces
Idea Type: Aerodynamic Block (Craft Control Block)
Expected Components:
Interior Plates
Metal Grids
Motors
Construction Components
What it does: Similar to gyroscopes, control surfaces help orient and maneuver a craft. The only difference is that these control surfaces rely on aerodynamic forces to function, and would be useless in space. There are 5 main control surfaces on a given craft: Left and Right Elevators, which are mounted on the horizontal stabilizer and control pitch and climb; Left and Right Ailerons, which are mounted on the wings and control roll from wingtip to wingtip, and the rudder, which sits on the Vertical Stabilizer and controls yaw and turning, as well as keeping the plane stable. Used together, the elevator, aileron, and rudder control a plane's orientation in the vertical and horizontal axes for steady, controlled flight.
Why should it be added: As a lightweight, low power alternative to gyroscopes for early game on planets, it would be useful in conserving resources, especially when resources are tight. They would come in the form of special wing block pieces that you can place on the trailing edge of your wings, and when built, will control your craft in atmosphere. They can also be used with space builds that rely on aerodynamics in atmosphere, alongside gyroscopes.
