Server-Wide Store Uplink

Plain and simple, my proposal is this.

The store block should be made more accessible to the average server player.

We need a server-wide store system that all players can access and trade items across the galaxy.

This could be implemented as a new block: "Store Uplink" which provides all players with access to a server-wide virtual trading center.


As it stands, building a store block does nearly nothing for a (server-new) player. It is simply a waste of materials. All you can do is post your items, and hope someone shows up to your small corner of the galaxy to buy / sell.

Alas, starting out, you have little defense, and little means of transport. Revealing your location can be the undoing of you, and your measly base.


Furthermore, in order for a person to trade there is a massive list of prerequisites that must be accomplished on a per-server basis.

1. Establish a location for your base (near materials / etc...)

2. Build your base to a point at which you can survive.

3. Build a ship capable of inter-planetary travel / defense.

4. Find/build a place to trade and defend it. (And hope someone else shows up there to trade as well... and not to destroy you.)


All this equates to a massive dedication of time and effort to a single server, in a mere system of maybes. All of which can easily be lost or destroyed if it is not your own server.


It is of my mere speculation that most people don't put in such massive amounts of dedication to a server without reason, AKA, a friend on the server, or some position of power. As such, most people sit in your state, unable to trade, either because others haven't met the requirements, or they have not.


My remedy, as stated previously is non-contact trading. This can be either a new block.. Perhaps called "Store Uplink" which is a block that will open a trading window with every other player's offers on the server.


This doesn't have to be the only method of trading,

Private trading terminals could still exist, as they do now. Perhaps luring ones in with competitive deals. Some risk, but with it's rewards. This competition likely contributing to a lively environment of supply and demand.


I have many many more ideas towards the store / contract systems which would improve them greatly, however to keep things concise, I will limit them to this one point, which I will, again, repeat.

Store access for all players.
