Radar - What the next combat update should have

radar.

Radar is extremely important for both small ship and large ships' combat. Since the next update will be a combat update, I strongly recommend adding the radar. It makes sense to fight with radar. If there is no radar, then in close-range or long-range battles, players can’t lock the target position and give players the correct visual feedback. This is not good for combat and it is not good for newcomers who want to contact the game. So adding radar can not only greatly improve the combat experience but also attract new players to the game. Whether it is the long-term development of this game or the injection of fresh blood, there are great benefits.

How it works:

First of all, the radar should be able to display the target on the cockpit screen and provide the location of the locked target based on the xyz axis. And radar should provide the API enables script writers to write scripts better.

What its graphical interface might look like:

As a space game, the radar should be based on the xyz three-axis orientation, so I think these games can provide a good reference. They can all provide the target's position in the three-dimensional space.

Some ideas to improve playability:

1. The radar can lock the target according to the size or speed of the target. For example, if the target is too large or the speed is too slow, then the radar is easy to lock, if the target is too small, the radar is not easy locking. This can encourage players to build ships of different types and positioning. 2. The radar can lock the opponent based on the opponent's energy source. For example, if the opponent's power is turned on, the radar can lock it, and if the opponent turns off the power, the radar cannot lock it. This can also be derived as a variant of radar that only locks the energy source. And it will greatly improve the playability, giving players infinite combat possibilities. For example, turn off your power when being chased by the opponent to avoid chasing and killing.

Why radar?

Space engineers have rarely added new functional blocks in recent years. Most of the recent updates have introduced blocks based on the original gameplay, and few have changed the SE core gameplay. This is not good for the long-term development of this game. If this continues, it will be difficult for new players to come into contact with this game, and it may even lead to the loss of old players. So I think Radar will be a good start. It will not change the core gameplay drastically but it will bring a huge improvement to the battle.
