Modding - path to vanilla files?

Is there a way to path to the vanilla content files when making a mod?

As an example, I have a mod that adjusts the volume of certain player tool sound effects. Using the same path that is in the vanilla SBCs, returns pathing error. You have to upload that sound to your mod. This is then making the mod larger than it needs to be. I have not been too concerned with this in the past, but as I am doing mods for Xbox players, I really want to cut down on mod size as much as possible. To keep its memory size down to keep it running efficent.


The same applies to other things like cloud textures etc, when editing planetdefinitions etc. It would be nice to be able to path to the vanilla files instead of having to upload all these files and bloating a mod.
