First Impressions
I find the survival update to be... Good-ish. A bit of a foreword, I typically play solo, so I won't cover any aspects regarding multiplayer. I hope to see what this string of updates bring. Thanks for all the work you guys have put in. My opinion may change with more testing, but until then. These are my thoughts.
1./ Turbine power and hydrogen as secondary alternatives to the typical reactor/solar is a good adjustment and leaves place for new and interesting designs.
2./ I don't entirely understand the displacement of Uranium. Admittedly as soon as you've a good deposit then you're set, but if that were the issue, simply modifying spawn amounts would have achieved the same result. Maybe minimalizing it on the planet surface, and giving significantly more on asteroids would be a sufficient middle ground.
3./ For the temperature bit.... I love it. It adds to immersion and the overall feelings of "surviving" rather than just simply building and waiting.
4./ Now speaking of survival, the new survival kit and the mini versions of the assembler and refinery. They are pretty bad when paired with the power/progression mix. Most notably being the fact that if you don't land near any ice, you are officially boned, or made to wait a while for a battery to charge. This could be fixed just by giving planetary respawn ships the possibility of movement, or any control for that matter. So rather then landing in the middle of nowhere you've an option to find a better starting point. Admittedly you could just set up a turbine and a battery and go get lunch, but that makes it feel like you should just be playing another game at that point. The one thing I LOVED from the new survival/production blocks is the ability to refine stone. Seriously, that crap served 0 purpose other than reactors up until now.
5./ Cargo ships- rock when it comes to being a single player pleb. Something to abuse, inspire and ultimately nuke. So the update's change of them is greatly appreciated... They're still a little derpy though. However that's simply the nature of the engine.
