Cannot See Planets

Whenever I play any map that starts on or around a planet, the entire screen goes black. I can tell I am still in-game and can still (theoretically) interact with the game (see where mineral patches are, open terminals, etc.). I am unable to see any of the environment, however. I am very eager to play this game, but I cannot due to this issue. My friend who introduced me to the game has almost the same specs as mine, though mine are a little better. He does not have this issue.
