Ant pelts.

So now that we have an economy, how about giving ants a value? NPCs could have an interest in acquiring ant pelts or some other unique item that they drop as loot. If we bring back cyberhounds, they could drop Hound A.I. units. Hunting wolves for loot in a space game doesn't sound very sci-fi.
I think the mechanics exist already as the Wolves/Spiders had the ability to drop loot before. So I think it would come down to creating the item, placing it as loot in the sbc, and then writing those items into the NPC "store" inventory of items the player can sell to the npc faction. Make them harder to kill and bug huntin' might be a fun PVE way to raise money.
