Helping an older parent adjust to accepting outside help
One of the harder parts for our family has been getting an older parent comfortable with the idea of accepting help from someone outside the family. They’ve always been very independent and don’t like feeling as though they’re relying on other people, even when certain tasks are becoming more difficult. We’ve been trying to explain that getting some assistance doesn’t mean they have to stop doing everything themselves. I’ve been researching home care Columbus options and thinking about starting with only a few things they actually want help with, such as meals, light housekeeping, or errands. Giving them a say in what kind of support they receive seems important because we want this to feel like something that makes their life easier, not something being forced on them. Hopefully, taking it slowly will make the adjustment more comfortable for everyone.
