What's the deal with plugins now? Are they still supported?

On your plugin page, you link to the GitHub page for the Plugin Loader.
There, you're immediately greeted with the message
Wouldn’t it make sense to update your own website then?
If you search online, you'll eventually come across the Pulsar Loader as the successor. But there's no info of it on your website.
In general: should we stop using plugins in SE1?
