Voxel Change Synchronisation Range - Proposed Improvement
I’d like to suggest an adjustment to how voxel changes are synchronized across the game world, as the current system unintentionally exposes the locations of player bases on planets and moons.
Right now, voxel deformations are streamed at effectively unlimited range. Even a small hole in the terrain appears from far away as a dramatically exaggerated crater due to how voxel changes are visualized at distance. This allows players to scan planets from orbit and easily spot where others have been digging or building, which compromises base security and removes the incentive to construct anything on planetary surfaces.
To address this issue, I propose limiting voxel change synchronisation to within 15 km of the deformation. Beyond this range, distant players would see the terrain in its default, undeformed state.
This change would:
- Prevent long-range scanning from revealing underground or surface bases.
- Improve privacy for planetary and lunar construction.
- Preserve performance by reducing unnecessary voxel streaming.
Overall, this adjustment would enhance gameplay fairness and restore the viability of building on planets and moons without instantly broadcasting your location to anyone in space.
