Modular spacesuits

This is an idea I've been toying with a while, that I think could add some real depth to gameplay. It might be worthy of an expac in itself.

Modular suits. You should be able to craft suit modules or pieces that can upgrade or change aspects of gameplay.


I see two basic approaches to the problem: suit pieces (helm, chest, legs, feet, gloves, backpack) that have different qualities (thus limiting you to only the abilities available on that equipment slot), or suit modules limited by power and CPU requirements instead of slot (more flexible).


Modules or pieces might:

* increase drill/weld/grind speed

* decrease o2/food consumption

* increased jetpack max speed/acceleration/fuel use

* reduce weapon kickback or range

* increased suit storage space


And maybe (if you do the module approach) some modules can increase your suit CPU or available power, allowing you to equip certain modules that you wouldn't be able to otherwise.


I think this has the potential to add some very meaningful choices in your gameplay.
