Rangefinder tool

Could you add a tool that replicates a rangefinder? Handheld to large grid would be awesome, give them different maximum ranges, I would think that 5km, 50km, 100km would work nicely.
It would be nice to know how far that hill is from your base to determine which weapon will cover the area best. How far away is that gun emplacement, can you make it to that rock outcropping before getting in it's range? Which asteroid do you head towards, that one looks closer and it never is.
