another potential solution to all of the complaints regarding extra armor blocks

This idea is much more complicated than the last one but is truly the pinnacle of form and function. First, one would place down this new block, when placed it would give a series of vertices that can be moved along the edges of a block, snapping at various points along the way perhaps, once finished the block could be welded and the armor would fill in between the vertices. There could also be snap points where it would line up with adjacent blocks

advantages of this method are that every single custom armor shape you have ever dreamed of is possible, and you can now fill any hole in any ship with the one special armor block you need.

cons of this method are that it could be difficult to use, especially on a controller (though tbh idk how you would even be able to play this on a controller), and unless fine-tuned controls are added it may be difficult to get the shape you want.

perhaps when unwelded you could even merge more than one of these together in a line to easily create long-distance slopes
