Feedback on Game as/for a New Player: Campaign
I much appreciate the work you all have put into the game, and will try it again in the future as updates continue, but as a "game" and less of a "sandbox", Space Engineers needs a little more oomph.
My humble suggestions:
1) An overall campaign or storyline, in the vein of the available missions. Kind of the in the vein of RTS games like Starcraft/Command and Conquer that gradually drip in new tech each "level".
2) Tie tech unlock to something like an Engram system, or from "found debris" like Subnautica; Perhaps found data banks.
Something like:
"Something has damaged the space station above 'mars', you have been forced to escape via emergency pod, landing somewhere on the surface. Your goal is to survive and establish contact with the station above, and ultimately Earth."
Level 1-A: Survive (start with drop pod)
Objectives:
- Use basic tools to gather materials
- Learn construction basics (only large grid available)
- Learn Power management (Solar/Wind)
Mission Success: Construct an assembler, basic refinery, and have a fully charged Large-Grid Battery
Mission Challenges: Sandstorms/Meteor showers, not falling down off a cliff, not getting lost
Level 1-B: Find New Tech (Assuming different means of learning/unlocking blocks; random drop pods begin falling)
Objectives:
- Find debris from the space station/other drop pods for new blueprints
- Build a rover capable of getting to large debris field
- Establish contact with any survivors still in space
Mission Success: Construct an antenna, build first rover

From here, something like 1-C is rendezvous with rescue party (which is quite far away, necessitating the use of a rover/mobile survival kit)
Level 2, zero grav tutorial; could be fixing the station and figuring out what happened;
Level 3, building larger space ships; learning an attack on Earth by the space pirates, and building a FTL ship to reach earth
Level 4, combat; fight off invaders on Earth; space pirates using spider aliens?
Level 5, Building craft capable of entering/exiting atmosphere; Alien planet; build craft to land on the planet and/or take out the space pirates/bugs.

The storyline is not so important, and the actual missions available are pretty good, but actual TLC would help (like a mission control telling what to do instead of wandering randomly and reading random billboards out of order)
