Any comment on the new center variable for block mirroring?

I noticed "Added center variable for block mirroring" was one of the features of the Most Wanted update and investigated further.
First thing I found was the <MirroringCenter /> definition. However, this tag seems to be identical to the <Center /> definition and even overrides it when present in a cubeblock's .sbc.
I'm wondering if this feature is still in development (as no blocks use it) or if I'm focused on the wrong thing altogether.
