Omni-wheels would be a great addition.

being able to strafe with wheels alone would be amazing, and fun to use while building rovers or wheeled bots of the sorts

Now THAT would be a Space-Engineers-worthy technology to add. Not too futuristic like magically hovering repulsors, not too ordinary like regular wheels and suspensions (that somehow have the steering axis far offset into the suspension itself, rather than as close to the wheel hub's centre like it ought to be, but making steering swivel the wheel in an idiotically wide arc instead), but just that bit of five-minutes-into-the-future flavour that SE has been building on. (Mostly.)
