Hinge unexpectedly snapped into place after popping the door loose

I upgraded my large construction ship to have double-doors on each side driven by hinges. The hinge seam is a quarter triangle block, so it looks like there is a long V seam down the doors. Up to now, they have been opening and closing just fine.

I accidentally scraped the ship on an asteroid while I was parking my ship for a mission. After I stopped, I was spinning the vessel to orient the ship towards the mission, which was the ship grinding mission in the Helionis sector. One of the doors stopped opening and closing afterwards, though there was no physical damage to repair.

Instead, it looked like one of the hinges had popped out of its bracket and was hanging on the bottom of the ship. The odd angle of the door was blocking it from opening or closing, or it would cause one of the doors to slam open or closed. Or the damaged door would open partially and close. Very weird behavior.

After studying the door, I determined that I needed to grind one of them down to free up the jam and replace it. No matter what I did, welding did not pop it back into place even though there was no parts damage.

I ground the door down removing solar panels and blocks until I got down to the very last half-block attached to the small block that is attached to the hinge. (See the attached video to see what remained, but unfortunately I didn't catch the next part so it's not on video.)

When I reached this last block, the hinge suddenly popped back together and started working again, opening the door. The entire time that I was grinding down the door, it was acting like it was going to fall off the ship. For it to suddenly pop back together without having to completely grind it down was a complete surprise.

I'm reporting this as a potential bug, as I am not sure if this popping back together without welding behavior is correct or not. I also have no idea how easy it would be to replicate.

In hindsight, I probably should have used more than one hinge to secure each door better. as the door is relatively huge compared to the hinge. A second hinge would help prevent damage due to twisting.

Now I just have to weld the door back together again. If I run into this issue again, I'll try to capture a video series showing the problem and how it seems to fix itself.
