Ice mining via hand drill triggers permanent CPU overload & severe stuttering

Description of the issue:

While playing in Singleplayer Survival mode, using the hand drill (LMB) specifically on ice voxels causes severe screen stuttering, micro-freezes, and a massive CPU temperature spike.

Crucially, this issue does not occur immediately. The game runs fine for the first few minutes, but after a prolonged mining session, the performance drastically degrades. This happens exclusively with ice – both when mining ice deposits on asteroids in space, and on frozen lakes/planet surfaces. Mining stone or other metal ores does not trigger this performance drop.

Crucial Save-State and Distance Behavior:

  • Persistent World Corruption: Once the performance degradation triggers, it becomes permanently baked into the world save. Reloading the world or restarting the PC does not fix it; the stuttering and CPU spikes return immediately upon loading that specific world.
  • Persistent Over Distance: The performance lag and high CPU fan speeds persist indefinitely, even if I move miles away from the original mining site. The engine stays trapped in the lag loop regardless of player position.
  • Fresh World Works: Starting a completely new world fully resolves the issue initially, confirming that the bug is directly corruption-tied to the active world save data once the ice buffer gets overloaded.

Even though the in-game FPS counter displays a solid 100 FPS, the actual frame pacing completely breaks after a while. At the exact moment the hand drill hits the ice voxel surface, my PC cooling fans immediately ramp up to 100% speed due to a sudden, extreme CPU load spike.

Opening the Advanced Dev Menu (F12) reveals that the TrashRemoval limits for Floating Objects are hard-locked to default values (64/80) and cannot be modified or saved by the user.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start a Singleplayer Survival game.
  2. Locate any ice voxel source (an ice asteroid in space or a frozen surface on a planet).
  3. Equip a standard hand drill and use the Left Mouse Button (LMB) to mine the ice.
  4. Continue mining ice for several minutes to allow the debris buffer to accumulate.
  5. Observe the severe screen stuttering and sudden, extreme CPU fan acceleration.
  6. Fly far away from the mining hole or reload the save – notice that the lag loop remains active permanently.
