Hybrid Thruster-Rover Accelerates Uncontrollably and Self-Destructs
Submitted
Environment
- Game Version: Space Engineers 2 (VS2.3.0.2793)
- Setup: New Quickstart, no mods, built inside the barn.
Vehicle Design
- Chassis: Cockpit, gyro, cargo container, connector, battery, 4 wheels.
- Thrusters: 2 forward atmospheric boosters (grouped FWD), 4 upward atmospheric boosters (grouped VERT).
- Configuration: Thrusters set to 100% override, grouped on toolbar (VERT and FWD groups) to toggle on/off.
Steps to Reproduce
- Build the hybrid rover.
- Before testing thrusters, test the rover. Drives normally.
- While parked (parking brake ON), test the vertical thrusters. Result: Thrusters fire normally, chassis shifts/hovers, no damage occurs.
- Turn OFF the parking brake.
- Attempt to drive or toggle the forward thrusters.
Observed Behavior
Once the thrusters have been activated at least once, releasing the parking brake triggers severe physics anomalies:
- Forward Thrust Enabled: The vehicle accelerates forward unstoppably and ignores the "turn off" command until it crashes.
- Forward Thrust Disabled (No Input): The vehicle immediately accelerates backwards uncontrollably.
- Holding Forward (W) with Thrusters Disabled: The vehicle only crawls slowly forward, as if fighting a massive, invisible reverse force.
Additional Notes
- The Workaround: The bug only stops if the thrusters are completely deleted/removed from the grid. Simply turning them off, disabling them, or grinding them down to an incomplete state does not resolve the phantom reverse force.
- The Trigger: The vehicle drives completely normally on its wheels until the thrusters are fired for the first time. Once fired, the grid enters a permanent "death ghost reverse thrust" whenever the parking brake is released.
