Infinite piston extension when reversed

I wanted to visualize the drill's area of effect on the voxels, so I connected three pistons in series with a drill attached at the end.
First, I extended the pistons one at a time until they were all fully extended. Then I selected all three pistons and clicked Reverse.
Although the terminal showed that their velocity had been reversed, the pistons continued extending beyond their maximum range instead of retracting. This also created large gaps between each piston's body and its head.
