Gravity not updating

I just recently began playing sandbox. While flying the first hydrogen ship toward earth-like, the gravity number never updates unless I switch view (by pressing V) and only then does the number change on screen. Functionally, it works is it normally should in terms of affecting the flight path, only the visual number is not updating.
