SE2 - items return to wrong inventory

I was playing SE2 survival when I logged on to my world and my grinder MK 2 was no longer in my inventory. I didn't think much of it, went to my gearforge (where I had placed it earlier) and picked it up. Then I started using it and after a few minutes it was gone and back in the gearforge. So I'm pretty sure that's what happened the first time too. It was somehow reset back to an inventory it had been in previously, but not the same game session or even on the same day.
