Character Inside Asteroid After Crash

I loaded the standard Concordia scenario. I piloted the red ship towards the asteroid and turned dampeners off at a speed of 56m/s and jumped out of the control seat and then exited the ship. I was still very close to the front of the ship as it hit the asteroid and my character ended up inside the asteroid itself as per the picture attached. I had to use spectator mode to get out as I could not clip through the surface.
