Xbox Edition (PC Game Pass) Sim speed drops to 0.0 with runaway simulation thread (empty + old wor

Investigating

On the Xbox Edition of Space Engineers running on PC (Game Pass), I am experiencing catastrophic simulation drops in all worlds, including Empty World in Offline mode with no asteroids, no planets, and no grids.

After ~10–20 minutes of play, the simulation speed begins to stutter, eventually repeating every 2–3 seconds. At its worst, sim speed drops to 0.00–0.03 and the game is effectively frozen.

This happens in:

  • Brand new worlds (including Empty World).
  • Old worlds that previously ran fine.
  • Both Creative and Survival.
  • Offline mode (no server activity).

Debug overlay shows:

  • Sim speed: 0.03 (sometimes briefly 0.0).
  • OPS: 2.
  • Thread CPU Load: ~9074%.
  • Simulation CPU Load: ~4773%.
  • Server thread CPU Load: ~9074%.
  • Server simulation CPU Load: ~4773%.
  • Render GPU Load: normal.

The issue persists after:

  • Reinstalling the game.
  • Resetting configs/caches.
  • Disabling autosave.
  • Starting in Empty World with no asteroids.
  • Running in Offline mode.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch Space Engineers Xbox Edition (PC Game Pass).
  2. Start an Empty World in Offline mode.
  3. Play for ~10–20 minutes.
  4. Observe simulation speed dropping in cycles, eventually tanking to 0.0 with CPU thread load spikes >9000%.

Expected Result:

Simulation speed should remain near 1.0 in an Empty World with no voxels or grids.

Actual Result:

Simulation collapses every 2–3 seconds, sim speed tanks to near 0.0, and the world becomes unplayable.

Platform:

  • Xbox Edition (PC Game Pass)
  • Offline mode

Hello, Engineer!

We're sorry to hear you're experiencing issues. Could you please let us know about the system you're running the game on? Which version of Windows do you have? Does your hardware fulfill the minimum system requirements?

https://www.spaceengineersgame.com/system-requirements/

Could you please attach a log file from any affected world?

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

I do have a video showing the beginning of the cycle right after i join into my game for the first time today and it start immediately, but ill send that only if it is needed.

My system specs are :

AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8 core

16GB DDR5 RAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060TI

with 513GB of space.

Windows Version is:

Windows 11 version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.5624)

The problem starts instantly-20 minutes into the game, the only way i have found to 'resolve' this issue is by

leaving and rejoining my save, and even when i do the problem can still start instantly again.

After a while of experience the problem it does gradually increase to get worse eventually getting to those numbers ive previously sent, and maybe even less than that at the time i sent those because my game was completely frozen and those were the only numbers i had, i couldn't even press windows to exit the game or to restart or power off my pc. In conclusion, it got so bad i couldn't use my pc.

Hello, Engineer!

Let's start with updating Windows and installing all available driver updates.

Next please open the Xbox app, select the game and choose Manage. In the Files tab please press Verify and Repair.

I've updated my pc already and i've also repaired and verified the game files multiple times, along with un-installing an re-installing it multiple times

Hello, Engineer!

To further assist in resolving this, please try the following steps:

Delete Game Configuration

This will reset your game settings to default.

  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Delete Shader Cache

  • Same access as SpaceEngineers.cfg, delete folder ShaderCache2

Once done, check if the issue still occurs.

If the issue persists, please include the Windows Event Viewer log from the time of the issue. To get the Windows Event Viewer log, please open the Event Viewer (from the start menu, type Event Viewer). In the Event Viewer, go to Windows Logs, Application, and send the top “.NET Runtime” error from Application: SpaceEngineers.exe. (please see attached image).

To do this right, please follow these steps:

1) Select the correct file on the left side (Application)

2) Select first the .NET runtime error from the top (using default ordering)

3) Copy the large bottom text and send it to us.

Please Note: make sure that the info is from the Application: SpaceEngineers.exe

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind Regards,

I have the same issue, I deleted the config and shader cache, and it still continued (although it seemed to be slighter better, not by much though). Also, the game didn't freeze permanently just temporarily.

I added a video of what it was like before, after and the log file (sorry for the audio in the background, that was from a video I was watching on the side, and closing it made no changes to performance).
