Space Engineers on Console
Dear Keen Software House Team,
first of all, I would like to say how much I appreciate the work you have done with Space Engineers. It is truly a fantastic game, one of the best I have ever played. I have spent countless hours in it – over 1,000 by now – and I continue to enjoy the creativity, depth, and freedom it offers. I have been part of the community for about two years, actively involved for the past year, and I regularly participate in the official Keen Discord. I have met many great people there and had many good discussions.
That being said, I would like to share some constructive criticism regarding the PlayStation version of Space Engineers. Please understand that this comes from a place of respect and genuine enthusiasm for the game – I want to see it become even better, especially for console players like myself.
1. Learning Curve & Missing PlayStation-Specific Support
The game is already known to be quite complex for beginners, which is fine and part of its charm. However, as a PlayStation player, I found it much harder to learn because most tutorials, guides, and community content are aimed at PC players, sometimes at Xbox players, but almost never at PlayStation. Many important control shortcuts and functions are undocumented, and I had to discover them on my own, even after hundreds of hours. This makes the onboarding experience unnecessarily frustrating for PlayStation users.
2. DLC Functionality Issues on PlayStation
I have purchased the base game and all available DLCs because I wanted to fully support you and enjoy everything the game has to offer. However, some blocks and features simply do not work properly on PlayStation. For example, warning signs and certain textures consistently fail to display, despite being included in the DLC content. I paid the same price for the DLCs as PC players, but I cannot use them as intended. This should be made very clear in the store descriptions or in-game, otherwise it feels unfair and misleading.
3. Missing Content and Unfair Limitations
There are also skins and items (e.g., unidentified signals) that are completely unavailable to PlayStation players. Furthermore, PC players have opportunities to earn extra skins, while console players have no such options at all. As a PlayStation player, this feels like being left out, even though we make up a significant part of the community and contribute just as much financially.
4. General Lack of PlayStation-Specific Support
Overall, I feel that PlayStation players are not given the same level of care and support as PC players. I fully respect that Keen is a relatively small development team, and I admire the effort you put into maintaining such a complex game. But I truly believe there are possible solutions, and PlayStation players deserve equal consideration.
In conclusion, I want to emphasize again how much I love Space Engineers. My criticism is not meant to be hostile, but rather to highlight real frustrations that affect many PlayStation users. I will continue to play and support the game, but I sincerely hope these concerns can be addressed in future updates or at least communicated more clearly to the console community.
Thank you very much for your time, your hard work, and for creating such a brilliant game.
