With light armor blocks being so weak, but heavy armor being so heavy, it's hard to find a balance to make a sturdy ship that isn't easily shredded by overpowered gatling guns. Small grid ships are even worse. I've seen mods that, unfortunately don't work on console, using jump drives as shield generators. Is that something you could possibly bring into the game? It'd require small grid jump drives, too.
