For Star System/worlds with Radiation enabled, add an indicator for intensity in spawn menu
This is mostly for Star System worlds. It primarily affects Europa, which has a constant radiation risk.
It also touches Mars/Pertam/Moon/Triton/Space, which now have solar or storm radiation risks.
Currently, players unfamiliar with the new update mechanics or who have not yet played worlds with radiation enabled will not know that previously "difficult but safe" spawns like Europa are now significantly riskier.
It has led to a couple frustrated players on a server I play, having not known about radiation dangers and experiencing a lot of frustration with bootstrapping when their possible EVA time is minutes in some cases. One of which definitely wasn't me who didn't read the patch notes.
As part of the "new world" experience is giving players an overview of the challenges of each possible spawn, it makes sense that the radiation risk would also be included alongside O2 and gravity.
This could be implemented in two possible ways.
- Generic "Radiation Exposure" level range, with "Low/Medium/High".
This is a more general category that does not separate radiation types/quantity.
It is the most flexible and easiest to understand, as well as the easiest to implement.
A general category allows all exposure types (planetary, storm-based, solar-based, etc) to be lumped together as one risk class. - Specific exposure # in "rads per minute", or whatever unit the radiation Exposure Level is considered to be in-game.
Would require giving a range, if exposure on a given planet is event/weather based.
Harder to understand, but more "in-universe" appropriate and more descriptive of the true risk. Requires player to infer their own desired risk levels.
E.g, Europa would say "15 rads/min", indicating it's constant core radiance.
Alien would say "0 - 15 rads/min", indicating no solar risk but possible event driven exposure.
Triton would say "1.5 - 15 rads/min", indicating minor solar risk as well as possible event driven exposure.
Attached are basic image mockups of how it would fit into the spawn pod menu. There is a lot of space to work with in that UI box.
