Graphics bugs: seeing through the ground; avatar half submerged

Playing a Classic Survival start and the graphics seem to have taken a step backward since I played the story mode a couple months ago. As I drill down into the ground, I see through the dirt to the landscape around me. Also, my avatar looks like it's half buried in the dirt.
