.5 Meter Conveyor Straight Tubes

Since we are NOT restricted to the 2.5 Meter grid, why do we not have short extensions for conveyor tubes (.5 meters in length?), allowing small offsets?
There are instances where it would be nice to be able to cover up a conveyor without using the smaller .5 Meter cubes but instead being able to offset the conveyor and being able to use a 2.5 Meter half block and saving a TON of PCUs.
