Space Engineers 2 All Blocks Receiving Damage

Loaded previous grid to find nearly all blocks dented and had some level of damage. Attempting to replace or place blocks adjacent to these leads to instant crash however generates no crash report.

The duplicate bug report found here has a good snapshot and the video provided by https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers2/pc/topic/45505-block-deformation-when-pasting-grid

@Karl Sagar at https://www.twitch.tv/themetta_/clip/LittleScrumptiousWebEagleEye-NlEdhj--c1PPbf1d has a much better video than mine experiencing the same issue.

Narrowed down replication of the issue to partial copies of grid. See attached video for before and after. Seems to happen regardless of mirror or non-mirrored partial copying

Grid copied for the video was built from scratch just prior to video start, not pre-copied / does not include damaged parts copied

Videos do not show however similar damage shows up across the nearly 200,000 PCU grid, on complete opposite ends, in both linear and non-linear paths from the copying spot.

No thrusters have been inside the ship to cause thruster damage

Can confirm that the issue only occurs when a partial copy of something on the grid is then pasted else where. Creating a part on a different grid, then partial copying it to the main grid does not cause the issue.

01FEB25, any partial copy from the grid will corrupt any other grid it is placed on with relative repeatability. Copy and pasting take notably longer with a short freeze before actioning the paste.

Short showcase of instant damage present. Video showcases a "0" taken from the corrupted grid and placed on brand new, separate grid with instant damage occurring. Within ~1 min of doing so the game will crash with the attached error report

Appears that the issue grows depending on the amount of (scu)blocks placed in total. Pushing further causes game to slow on placements and eventually overwhelm the cpu/system and/or completely crash the game. (tried in separate world save and can replicate with enough blocks placed)

Thanks for taking the time to check on this, out of curiosity, what was the PCU count you had when this was occurring? I find it difficult to believe this issue has not surfaced for many reaching 400,000 or beyond with the config edit

Currently I experience the issue at ~200,000 unedited config

No worries,

Around the 10,000 mark without fail so far. This snippet was from the standard 'empty world'

Only seems to happen from the copy and pasting blocks (ctrl+p)

More direct crash reports from the issue

Attempting to save after making a paste before the crash happens results in a save indicator stating:2758286a1a5ff9e6b2baf2e915e65c40

It is clear others are having this issues as seen in a duplicate bug report found here: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers2/pc/topic/45505-block-deformation-when-pasting-grid

Hello Adam,

Thank you for reaching out to our forum regarding this issue. We truly appreciate you sharing the videos and crash logs with us.

We attempted to reproduce the issue on our end but were unable to do so. To help us investigate further, could you provide additional details?

Does the issue occur only in an older or a particular saved world, or does it also happen in newly created worlds?

If you lower your graphics settings to medium or low, does that have any effect on the issue?

Are there specific steps following which game consistently triggers the blocks deformation and crash, even in a new world save?

We would greatly appreciate any additional information and the game log files, along with the crash log.

  • You can find the game's log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar, which will take you to the hidden Roaming folder. From there, navigate to ; Roaming\SpaceEngineers2\Temp\Logs and send us the latest SpaceEngineers2_ and _Render12 files.

Kind Regards,

Hi,

I have been looking at this again today and have managed to reconstruct. New saves. All graphics Settings tested.

This is on the empty world -

creating a large plain of large blocks -

started using only large blocks with copy and paste with no issues, with and without being damaged -

integrated 50cm blocks on top of the large, damaged them with the gun tool, copied a section with both blocks, pasted them down -

this created the deformation for me and crashed the game at the end.

ON second thought, the copy method could just be copying all damage in the area and pasting that over whatever blocks are there? The placing small blocks on mass causing stutters or crashes i'd assume is just an optimisation thing. i'd guess.

(i forgot to move the screen over so its a bit off to one side)

Logs of full play session attached

Thanks for looking into this, logs provided below, big shoutout to Karl for narrowing down how to recreate. The issue is replicatable with ~700 PCU.

Video 1: Easy replication: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R66vqkORv2c

Video 2: Easy Replication 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BONn1tnCTMU

Video 3: Expanded demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAUM_BO0TII

Video 4: Corruption Spread Demo / Crash Report 9: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXXUyNAuQhE

Recreation Steps:

Step 1: Create new world

Step 2: Create two identical large flat wall using large blocks with detail blocks on top

Step 3: Debug gun one half

Step 4: Partial copy unaffected side onto a separate grid or further onto the same grid

Step 5: Unaffected side will have "copied" the status of the affected blocks

Step 6+: Further copying on the grid will cause damage to all blocks on the grid over time, see expanded video 3 at approximately 7:20 for clearest example of non-copied blocks receiving deformation. Video 4 shows eventually game will fail to save and crash
