Retractable landing gear

Declined

Please create retractable landing gear in the basic version of the game. And it turns out a failure in technology. We can already build JumpDrive, and the retractable landing gear has never been thought of. Yes, and I think it would be very aesthetically and logically justified.

That and retracting ramps. There was a mod for that, but it was abandon I think.

I'm not a mod, but looks like this was declined before

It would be nice if Keen decide to reevaluate the difficulty of making them... Considering there are mods for them for a while now, That would says a lot in term of their skill level...

Plus any vanilla options are not viable as projectors do not project subgrids.

I MAKE THEM ON ALL MY VANILLA BUILDS. Its called a piston dude, get creative.

Yes it is cool to get creative building a landing gear from a piston, but when the game starts complaing about pistons being used, and you don't have the options to load it when building it from a projector it becomes an issue. We are not asking for a super complex landing gear. Just something with a simple animation. I have seen modded retrackable landing gears on the workshop, and they run very smoothly. I don't think it is too much to ask for when a guy can create one, and it works fine.

You cant fit a piston on every single build you make

This does not actually "park" your grid. This parks the subgrid attached to that piston. It is safest to NOT put your landing gears on pistons.

I consider Takeshi's retractable landing gear a necessity: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1114854185

This is an elegant solution, and I would like to see it in vanilla play.

I think the idea of using a plunger is pretty cool, are there any problems with using it that might annoy the player? https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/retractable-landing-gear_1Geometry Dash Scratch

And they have added them in Empyrion. They even have retractable turrets now.

It would be nice!!!

just use a system of pistons or rotors or something, make engineers engineer their own way to get this done, not cakewalk through it.

That would be nice if the subgrid perfomance and big/small grid compatibily were in place

that something to consider after they decide that pistons aren't the cousins to spaghetti noodles

The recent collision box and hinge updates makes vanilla retractable landing gears more viable, but nonetheless I agree that this would be great, for a number of reasons:

  1. The current landing gears simply don't fit well in compact or sleek, more streamlined ship designs. They alone take up 1x2x3 blocks - adding a piston's height makes the system 5 blocks tall. Hinges allow for slightly more compact designs but it still takes too much volume;
  2. Controlling landing gears in subgrids is a bit of a nuisance. This however could be fixed with a smarter solution for controlling them along with other blocks such as wheels and thrusters in subgrids (which would be awesome IMHO);
  3. The absence of more snapping surfaces in vanilla's landing gears make them look weird when but in non-vertical setups overall. Even in slanted protrusions, most of the time they simply look weird, as if they were strapped to it with duct tape or something. In more orthogonal designs and bulky designs, however, they work just fine.

Landing gears themselves should have simply been retractable by default. A single block that moves, not like the hinge, (two parts that move while connected)

Yet modders, without access to the core game code are able to do what Keen said is "to complex".
