It is far too easy to turn your lander pod into a flyer

the current progression system layout, allows a fast route to turn your lander pod into a basic flyer, by grinding down below functional, and re-welding a few blocks on the pod, it unlocks the needed blocks like Remote control, and gyroscope, there are spare parts in the excess armor blocks and a couple of the landing gears to make the RC and Gyro, and since the pod already has thrusters and enough power, it can fly, like a helicopter.

This should be altered to make it an easy route to turn your lander pod into a rover, flying is for later on, hence 'progression'.

This was the first thing that I did when I started a new survival game. :D

I don't think that this is a problem. This is just a trick that probably only the veteran players know how to do.

I'm quite happy that there is something like this that I could do with the basic drop pod. It's not the easiest thing to control, and it's quite hard to land it where you really want it, but that's just makes it balanced.

yeah thats fine, the issue is with progression system enabled, this should not be possible.

Why not tho?

because of 'progression', why ask? answer was already said :D

All right, but the gyroscope and the remote control block are basic stuff, and using the basic stuff creatively has nothing to do with progression. Progression is about getting better stuff.

yes in the right order,

with progression off yeah do what you can... i understand there needs to be some choice, but whats the point of having a set progression system if you can 'skip' a major part of it, like skip rovers and go straight to flying

To a cluncky uncontrollable flying? :D I don't think that's a skip, it's an alternative.

Even with that there are reasons to build rovers in certain instances. There are tasks, like massive item transportation that could be difficult to do with flying, because of the massive thrust that you would need for that. You can transport items with a much lower cost with rovers. (Remember that the ship inventorys are no longer affected by the inventory size option, so it's way harder to build functioning ships in planets.)

half the point here is that it can not be turned into a rover with the progression enabled, but can be turned into a flyer.

I agree with the OP!

Solution - Remove Thrusters from starting Landing pods

I think it's fine, though I don't see the need for the remote. I didn't think about grinding down stuff to level up when I started. I was digging down for rock to make the stuff to level up.

At first I just tried to take off though for some reason, in that ship, I couldn't add thrusters to the quick bar. Only had char gestures for some strange reason. Once I got the engines turned on, I found the craft unflyable. Didn't know it was missing RCS until I started going through it. Then I went to trying to get rcs avoiding dismantling the craft so I could use it to find a better spot.

Ended up starting over on another server in space because the server I started on, would have to be restarted and then was too full to get back on. By the time I could get on, what I had made was griefed and I had to start in a new pod. When I started on a bigger server, I went for space and first thing I do always is working on building a couple of merge blocks to keep the ship. Then I just keep building on it.

You can't control a ship from a passenger seat, that's why you need the remote control. Or you have to remove the seat to build a control seat instead but it's more expensive.

I disagree. Being able to quickly get off a bad starting position without the need to put down a small base in order to make this thing fly is a very good point, as you don't choose where you land. And the flying pod is enough badly controlable to make it a temporary solution and not a long term ship.

was more meaning its easier to turn it into a flyer than a rover, it should be easier to turn it into a rover than a flyer, and taking into account the progression system too but i cant change the title now :D
